FUN AT SKY RANCH - TAGAYTAY

After Puzzle Mansion Museum, it was time for lunch.  We were hungry and our next destination was Sky Ranch, Tagaytay.  It was your usual theme park with rides and all, but the main attraction is the giant Ferris wheel a.k.a. the Sky Eye which is 200+ feet tall and has 32 air-conditioned gondolas.  It boasts a breathtaking view of Tagaytay and the magnificent Taal Lake.  We first had lunch at a fast food store inside Sky Ranch's premises then headed straight to the theme park.  The kids were obviously very, very excited.  My kid was even singing Blippi's song, "Theme Park."  It was play time for the kids!

Their entrance fee from Monday to Thursday is 50 pesos and 80 pesos from Friday to Sunday and holidays.  Since it is Monday, we availed their promo at that time which was only 50 pesos each.   Kids who are three feet and below are free.  Some of the smaller kids in our group availed this perk.  I really recommend going to Tagaytay on weekdays because first, no heavy traffic plus perks there are some establishments like Sky Ranch who offer a discount during weekdays.

Sky Ranch, located in Nasugbu Highway, Kaybagal South, Tagaytay, Cavite is owned by the famous business mogul in the Philippines, SM.  It opened its doors to the public in March of 2013.  They offer various rides like the Sky Eye, the Super Viking, the Flying Bus, Sky Cruiser, Log Coaster, and Drop Tower to name a few.  They also have kid-friendly rides like the Double Decker Carousel, Express Train, Racing Car, and Wonder Flight.  We did not have the time to ride the Express Train because it was too hot that day like it was the peak of summer in the Philippines.

It was not the first time for me and hubby to come here, but it was a different experience this time because we were with our little energizer bunny.  Our first time here, which I would never ever forget was hubby's birthday.  It was his request that we celebrate it in Sky Ranch.  We rode the Ferris wheel, which I swore I would never ride again because I was so nervous and the husband was making fun of me because by the time we finished the ride, our tickets were soaking wet because of my sweaty palms, but maybe I will try again if kiddo would ask. We'll see next time :)

Since it was play time for the kids, we went our own ways and explored the theme park.  We just had a meeting place and time so we would not get lost.  I suggest that if you are going anywhere in a large or even small group to have all contact numbers in hand, so in case others get lost, you can easily contact them.

Since it was I think one in the afternoon, there were only a few customers as you really cannot tolerate the heat.  Also, nobody dared to ride the heart-pumping rides maybe because they were afraid of heat stroke.  Make sure to bring bottled water while at the theme park to keep you and your kids hydrated.

We just decided to ride the Double Decker Carousel.  Tickets are paid at the ticket booth in front of the Sky Eye.  All rides must be paid there beforehand, then you will just give the stub to the ride operator.  The Double Decker Carousel ride costs 50 each, so if you are going to accompany your kid, it's 100 pesos for you two.

The kids really enjoyed the carousel ride.  It was a bit short though and they wanted another round.  I would say it lasted only about three or five minutes max.  I was too busy capturing the moment that I forgot to time it.  To cool you down, you can also buy Korean ice cream (Melona and Samanco) which is also offered inside the theme park.

Sky Ranch is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and they open longer from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. during Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.  Maybe it was just me because I was never a fan of theme parks (I would rather go to the beach or be one with nature or go to a library), but the exhausting part was you have to walk and walk and walk.  Each time you see a ride, you would have to go to the ticket booth to buy tickets.  I think it would be better if there was a cashier at each ride so that customers would not have to go back and forth just to get tickets.

I think the best strategy especially when you have kids in tow is to plan ahead.  Know all the rates for each ride (so you can budget accordingly), ask your kids what rides they want, and then you can buy tickets all at the same time so it would just be one trip to the ticket booth, and also, stick to your plan and your budget.  Sometimes, we get carried away and especially with games at theme parks.  They would even lure you more chances of winning by giving bonuses or discounts.

For ticket prices, I messaged them on Facebook and got a copy.  I posted the exact photo they sent me below.  The Sky Eye costs 150 pesos, the Super Viking for 100 pesos, the Flying Bus for 100, Sky Cruiser for 100, Log Coaster also for 100, the Safari Splash for 120, Mini Viking for 50 pesos, the Racing Car, Nessi Coaster, and Wonder Flight all for 50 pesos, City Rail for 80 pesos, the Red Barron, Boat Parade, Toy Swing, Double Decker Carousel, Pump Around, Bubble-o-Fun, Safari Train, Convoy, and Fun Bike all for 50 pesos.  The Softball Play Zone cost 200 to 300 pesos.

If you get tired, you can rest at their covered events place called The Venue.  You can enjoy shopping for souvenirs and pasalubongs.  You can also buy snacks here.  Parking rates are 30 pesos for bikes, 50 pesos for cars, and 150 pesos for buses.  Some food establishments offer free parking if you choose to dine there like Kuse and Leslie's.

It was really fun to see the mommies doing mommy duties, a.k.a. official photographer of their child.   I took this behind-the-scenes photo of them which was so funny.  Even the mommies had a blast.  It was a great bonding experience for the kids and the mommies.  Even though we just stayed there for more than an hour, the kids got to know each other better and the mommies and teacher really bonded.

Overall thoughts?  Sky Ranch is a fun place especially for kids and kids at heart.  I really appreciate that they have rides for younger kids to enjoy and they have posters on each ride where you can see the height and age requirement.  They value customer safety.  I'd say that entrance fee is not expensive but should be waived if the customers are availing rides and ticket rides should be cheaper or at least have a package or a ride-all-you-can promo that you can avail on site.  (I'm sorry I am not aware if this exists in Sky Ranch.  I told you I am not a fan of theme parks.)  Plus, as I said above, each attraction should have its own ticket booth.  Less hassle for customers, more jobs they can generate.  But, as I said, it was fun and really exciting for the kids, especially for first-timers.

Are you like my kid who loves theme parks?  What theme/leisure parks would you recommend?  Please comment down below!

  3. This place looks like a lot of fun!! I especially couldn’t go on the Ferris wheel though as I am way too afraid of heights. I also agree with making sure you have a phone to contact your family if you get lost. I remember that happening to me when I was young and it was scary (obviously I didn’t have a mobile phone then) x

  16. I must admit I'm a lot like you in that I don't really love theme parks that much and would much rather enjoy time away in nature. However, it is always a pleasure to take kids as they love it and it is always joyful to see them enjoy themselves all over the park.
